Reflection on the Passion Narratives with John Pilch
When : Friday, March 8, 2013 at 8 p.m.-9:30 p.m. (This event does not require registration)
Where : All Saints Church 10900 West Oakland Park Blvd Sunrise 33351
Language : English
Description : All four accounts of the Passion of Jesus (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) share five scenes in common: Jesus’ arrest in the Garden, Jesus before the chief priests, Jesus before the Roman prefect, Jesus’ crucifixion, and Jesus’ burial. Yet we are limited in what can be known historically about Jesus’ death. The most important concern for Christian faith is to discern the spiritual meaning each Gospel was intended to convey.
Why does each give us different theological emphases? And if everyone abandoned him, who was left to report what exactly had transpired? How did these narratives come about and why are they so important?
Building on Friday’s presentation, Dr. John J. Pilch takes us through a day of seriously exploring the core of our faith. Cost is Free for Fridays event.
Next Day March 9 is a $15 retreat led by Dr. John J. Pilch.
